{Review} Heirloom Audio Productions ~ Beric The Briton

Beric The Briton Heirloom Audio Productions Review

We have listened to another wonderful audio production by Heirloom Audio Productions called Beric The Briton!  I was thrilled when my family had the opportunity to review this production!  We were first introduced to Heirloom Audio Productions earlier this year when we reviewed ‘The Dragon and the Raven‘.

The cast of Beric The Briton includes: Brian Blessed (Star Wars, Tarzan, Robin Hood), Brian Cox (The Bourne Identity, Braveheart), Tom Baker (Dr. Who), Honeysuckle Weeks (Foyle’s War), Cathy Sara (Downtown Abbey), and John Rhys-Davies (The Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones).

Beric the Briton is 2 1/2 hours of non-stop adventure for Ages 6 – adult.  The cast brings this wonderful story to life!  While to you are listening you can picture yourself right there in the middle of everything and you will not want to stop listening!  We are brought to the time when Roman invaded Britannia.  During this time Beric and Bodouc are captured and while in custody they first hear of Christus.   Listen along as Beric first hears about our one true God and will Beric and Bodouc lose their lives or will they be set free?

The study guide is well done and is done in color!  Since the guide is in a PDF you can read it from any device or you can choose to print the study guide.  Every page in the guide covers approximately 5-8 minutes of the audio production.  At the top of every page, there is a reference to the time duration, disc number, and track that the page covers.  Having this information is very helpful because it allows everyone to easily find where to begin.  The study guide consists mainly of answering questions, defining words and the occasional “Expand Your Experience!” section with activities including cooking a recipe, reading interesting facts, and expanding your knowledge.  You will never run out of questions to ask in this study guide!  There are ‘Listening Well’ and ‘Thinking Further’ questions.  For most study pages there are at least 10-15 questions, between the two sets of questions, and some have more than 20 questions!   The ‘Listening Well’ questions are basic questions such as “Who greets them when they arrive at the house?” and “Where would Beric like to spend all of his time?”  “Thinking Further’ questions have more then one sentence answers.  They get students thinking, exploring further, and explaining their answers.  Ex: Julius says that Paul “openly teaches that there is only one true King-Christus. And that Nero must bow to Him.”  Is Christ the same sort of king as Nero?  How are their kingdoms very different?  Does Christ conquer by the sword?  How does He rule?  ‘Defining Words’ is a set of vocabulary words that you can have your student define.

Following all of the study questions there is a list of books if you would like to read more about the Britons and Romans in the 1st Century.  Historical Background for Beric the Briton follows.  Three Bible study pages with questions that you need to look up Bible verses to get the answers and a couple pages on ‘The Significance of the Colosseum in Christianity’ finishes up the study guide.  The only thing the study guide does not contain are the answers.

The kids and I listened to Beric the Briton while we were out and about running errands and driving to a couple doctor’s appointments that are a lengthy drive.  I also listened to some of it in the evenings after everyone was in bed.  I thought the entire production from the cast to the music was well done and can be enjoyed over and over.  I enjoyed Beric the Briton and look forward to any future releases from Heirloom Audio Productions!
