When the opportunity came to be able to review Zonderkidz hardcover Faith Builders Bible I knew this would be one my girls would enjoy! Building with Legos are popular with all five of my kids. Perfect timing on arriving too! The Bible arrived shortly before we left for Awanas! Our girls use Bibles in Awanas and Peanut is using this Bible in Awanas as well as at church on Sundays. Peanut also likes to carry around her Bible wherever she goes!
The Faith Builders Bible is the perfect size for small hands and light weight. Written in New International Reader’s version it is an easy read for young children. However, the font is small on most pages and some children, especially beginning readers, may have difficulty reading scripture. I do like that the scripture is in two columns on every page but it may create some difficulties for a beginning reader. Older children and experienced readers should not have trouble with either of the two things mentioned.
Here are three verses that I would like to share that are written in the New International Reader’s Version.
Psalm 23 – The Lord is my shepherd. He gives me everything I need. He lets me lie down in fields of green grass. He leads me beside quiet waters. He gives me new strength. He guides me in the right paths for the honor of his name. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid. You are with me. Your shepherd’s rod and staff comfort me. You prepare a feast for me right in front of my enemies. You pour oil on my head. My cup runs over. I am sure that your goodness and love will follow me all of the days of my life. And I will live in the house of the Lord forever. (NIrV)
John 3:16 – God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son. Anyone who believes in him will not die but will have eternal life. (NIrV)
Romans 3:23 – Everyone has sinned. No one measures up to God’s glory. (NIrV)
The Faith Builders Bible includes 24 beautiful color pages of Bible stories! Every page has a scene from the Bible created with blocks and a building block verse. Some of the pages include a challenge to build something (like recreating the scene or creating animals) or read another passage to learn more about what happened. The font on these pages are a lot larger and are easier for a beginning reader to read. The possibilities are endless when using the Faith Builders Bible because you are not limited to the pages that are included in the Bible. Any scene can be recreated to reinforce what is being learned!
At the back of the Bible there is a small, five page, dictionary and a list of 92 Bible stories and where you can find them in the Bible. There are no maps that you would find in the majority of Bibles. This hasn’t been and shouldn’t be an issue for Peanut when using this Bible at church during service or during Awanas.
